LGMA Annual Local Government Conference 2026: Local Government Futures

The 2026 LGMA Annual Local Government Conference will be held from Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 September 2026 at Sea World Resort, Main Beach, Queensland. This year’s theme, “Local Government Futures”, will explore how Queensland’s local government sector can prepare for a future shaped by accelerating change, evolving community expectations, emerging technologies and increasing external pressures.

While the fundamental role of local government has remained relatively consistent over many decades, the environment in which councils operate continues to change rapidly. From population growth and shifting priorities to technological advancement and increasing demands on services, councils are being challenged to consider how their organisations, workforces and ways of working may need to evolve.

The 2026 Conference provides an opportunity for local government leaders to explore the possible futures facing the sector, identify emerging pressure points and consider how technology, innovation and new ways of working can create greater productivity and better outcomes for communities.

As a long-standing partner to the public sector, McArthur is proud to support the 2026 LGMA Annual Local Government Conference, working alongside Queensland councils and government bodies to help them recruit, retain and develop the people they need to meet both today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities.
