Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Working with Children Check?
Candidates who are registered as an ECT do not require a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
All educator candidates are required to have a WWCC before commencing work.
Is relocation financial assistance available?
Relocation supplements are available to incentive recipients who relocate more than 100kms from their place of residence as a contribution towards the cost of relocation. Supplements range from $1,000 - $6,000 for those relocating alone or $2,000 - $8,000 for those relocating with dependants. More information is available from your McArthur consultant.
Can overseas candidates access the relocation supplement before they move to Australia?
We will take a case-by-case approach where candidates relocating from overseas request access to a relocation supplement prior to arriving in South Australia. This approach is limited to exceptional circumstances where candidates are required to demonstrate that they require the funds to cover the costs of moving (e.g. the cost of airline tickets) upfront.
These instances must be discussed with the department and approval is not guaranteed.
What supports are in place for early childhood professionals joining or re-joining the sector?
Candidates joining/rejoining the South Australian early childhood sector may be eligible for an individual incentive of $9,000 (before tax) where they take up a role at any service delivering, or planning to deliver, funded Three-Year-Old Kindergarten or Pre-Prep. For more information about individual incentives, please contact our Consultants.
Do I need to obtain initial registration as an early childhood teacher (ECT) in South Australia?
To teach in South Australia, ECTs must be registered and they will be issued with a registration card, noting the type of registration (full or provisional), the speciality area (eg. Early Childhood/Primary) and the expiry date. Registration and payment are required annually in Victoria and registration typically expires in September of each year.
Can all international early childhood teachers (ECT) be considered for the roles in South Australia?
Eligibility for registration as an ECT is currently available for some international qualifications. See the ACECQA Qualifications Checker for further information and to assist you in determining if a candidate meets the criteria for registration. Please note that this checker lists accredited courses only and does not replace or guarantee successful registration.
