2026 National General Assembly of Local Government

Stronger Together: Resilient, Productive, United

The 2026 National General Assembly (NGA) of Local Government will bring together council leaders, policymakers and industry partners in Canberra from 23–26 June 2026.

This year’s theme, “Stronger Together: Resilient, Productive, United,” reflects the growing importance of collaboration across all levels of government to address the complex challenges facing Australian communities. From housing and infrastructure to disaster resilience, workforce capability and digital transformation, the Assembly will explore how local governments can work collectively to strengthen communities and support national prosperity.

The NGA remains the largest annual gathering of local government leaders in Australia. Delegates will discuss motions that shape national advocacy priorities, ensuring the voice of local government is heard in federal policy decisions that affect communities across the country.

Attendees will also hear from respected speakers and sector experts who will explore how councils can build resilience, drive productivity and deliver sustainable outcomes for their communities.
