McArthur are seeking a Diploma Qualified Educator for a ongoing full-time position working at the Victorian Autism Specific Early Learning & Care Centre (ASELCC). The ASELCC is a passionate and innovative team of educators, allied health clinicians, trainers and researchers who deliver intensive early intervention for children aged 1-4 years with autism, and conduct research into the feasibility and effectiveness of various intervention models with this population. The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) in implemented in this education and intervention program.

In this role, you will work within the autism specific playroom within the La Trobe University Children's Centre, alongside supportive and dedicated colleagues. You will play an instrumental role in ensuring the standard of teaching is high and families are well-supported in the program. You will demonstrate leadership in developing, planning, implementing and evaluating an education and intervention program that reflects best practice and innovation in this exciting field. You will receive considerable training and mentoring, including the opportunity to certify as an ESDM therapist.

The playroom has capacity for 10 children per day, with 3 other full time educators in addition to this role, and allied health staff supporting the program. All staff are trained in ESDM, which is delivered throughout the daily routines and play.

Essential Requirements:

  • Diploma in Children's Services
  • Current WWCC, National Police Check (within last 6 months)
  • Passion and/or experience working with children with additional needs and/or autism
  • Strong, collaborative leadership skills
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated team attitude and desire to learn new skills through feedback from colleagues and trainers
  • Ability to provide a strong curriculum for children with autism - as well as the ability to participate in the development, implementation and review of training programs for staff, families and carers
  • Up to date First Aid, CPR and Anaphylaxis Certificate
